FOCUS, the Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in the United States is an organization intended for young adults, both married and single, post-graduate students as well as professionals, approximately ages 23 and up. Its goal is to provide a forum, both spiritual and social, for young adults in the American context, looking to enhance their experience of the Orthodox Church. In doing so, FOCUS seeks to take on the challenges faced by young adults in American society; including but not limited to issues of substance abuse, marital and premarital counseling, professional development, and youth counseling. The aim is certainly not to create a divide in the Church nor to ignore the MGOCSM and other spiritual organizations. FOCUS looks to strengthen the Church as a whole by utilizing the strengths and developing the theological and spiritual awareness of our next generation of adults in the Orthodox Faith.
Goals include:
To provide spiritual enrichment for young adults and couples via prayer meetings, Bible studies, counseling sessions led by trained professionals, etc.
To train young adults to be active in the administration and activities on the parish level.
To use the skills and experience of young adults to provide a support system for the young people of our church via Sunday School, MGOCSM, and OVBS.
To identify and bring back young adults who have left the church for various reasons, and provide them with a way into the Christian community.
Mrs. Anu Vergis and Mr. Libu Geevarghese are the parish FOCUS coordinators.
