MGOCSM is the student wing of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, It was formed to bring together Orthodox students at colleges and high schools and to create in them brotherly love routed in Jesus Christ. The movement was started in 1907 by a group of Students and Senior leaders in Madras (now known as Chennai) under the name ‘Syrian Student Conference’ and its first Annual meeting was held at Thiruvalla on January 1, 1908.The “Syrian Student Conference” assumed its present name “MGOCSM” with the motto “Worship, Study, Service” in the year 1960. MGOCSM is the oldest Christian Organization in India

Over the years, several wings of MGOCSM like the High School wing, University wing, University Teachers wing, Medical Auxiliary wing, Technical Auxiliary wing, Missionary wing, Publication wing came in to existence.

The MGOCSM of the Northeast American Diocese is led by His Grace Zachariah Mar Nicholovos Metropolitan. Any student of a College or a High School who belongs to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church is eligible to become a member of the Movement. Any person other than a student belonging to the Church and subscribing to the aims and objects of the Movement is also eligible to become a member of the Movement. Even though MGOCSM began in India, it took on a new role in the United States. Rather than creating MGOCSM units in colleges, in the U.S.A units are formed in the parishes, a natural development that took place for a rising need to mobilize Orthodox youth.

MGOCSM functions a “MGOCSM North America” because it is a united ministry of both the South-West Diocese and Northeast Diocese. The respected Metropolitans of both Dioceses lead the MGOCSM of North America. Under their leadership and guidance, the General Secretary governs the MGOCSM, in collaboration with the Diocesan MGOCSM Secretaries, each with their respective autonomy and constitutional role and responsibilities. Council Representatives are elected and appointed by the Metropolitan for each Area. An area is defined according to population
