Sunday School

WelcomeStaffPrograms

Sunday school offers opportunities for a child to grow closer to God, made possible only by learning and understanding his Word – the Holy Bible, the study of history, traditions, and practices of the Holy Church, and getting involved with social activities.

The cross is perfect in its representation, wherein the vertical beam depicts our relationship with God, and it is our love for him, which transcends into the horizontal beam depicting our relationship with each other. The most important point to note here is that unless our relationship with God is in the right place, our relationship with each other would hang in midair.

Along with spiritual growth, areas for self-development including, Speech, Storytelling, Song, and Art, are also made available to all students who might be interested to join them. Competitions are held at the Church, Area and the Diocesan levels and I am glad to attest that our students always perform their best, and bring laurels to the church.

It is easier to preach than practice, and if we do not have an avenue to help the needy, we end up mostly preaching about the Love of God and are not able to put it into action hence one of the Christian ethics, caring for the needy cannot be achieved. Sunday school is helpful in this regard, wherein, Sunday school students could be involved in social outreach activities offered to them based on their age and grade, and among them a few are – Packing toiletry packs for the homeless, Help out at soup kitchens in the area, Collect school supplies and winter clothing for the needy, even help with the rehabilitation of those affected by natural disasters.

Training a child in the Christian culture of Love for God and humankind is especially essential and relevant in this age, due to the numerous challenges; our children face in this world daily. We as followers of Christ must have clarity on our identity, and the responsibilities entrusted to us by our savior. The best time to learn and develop it, is from childhood.

To successfully execute the aforementioned, requires help from a lot of people. We are blessed to have a large group of dedicated volunteers and teachers from the church who spend their time, energy and resources to ensure that our goal of bringing children closer to Christ and to help experience him daily, Among our strengths, is the inflow of the newly graduated students, who help out as teachers and volunteers. A special mention only because they spare their valuable time, in spite of the college commitments and study schedules.

Our Vicars, Rev. M.K. Kuriakose and Rev. Sujit Thomas are instrumental in the smooth running of our Sunday school, because they guide us in our activities, help us plan events and also take classes on special topics for both, teachers and students, as needed.

St. Luke 10:27:-  “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself”.

Regular Schedule
Every Sunday after Holy Qurbana, the senior and junior division students assemble separately from noon to 12:15 pm. Here they listen to devotional messages or general speeches by guest speakers or staff members or learn hymns. From 12:15 to 1:00 pm, regular curriculum is taught in individual classes, following the syllabus provided by the American diocese. All of this knowledge is imparted to our students by a team of efficient and dedicated teachers who put children first. In addition to the regular classroom instructions, our teachers coached students for singing, storytelling, public speaking and Bible quiz. Many students made use of these opportunities, and that in turn has benefited our Sunday school students in many ways.

Examinations
Mid-term exam, Quizzes and annual examinations are held for each Grade. Students from 5th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade are expected to take the centralized examinations conducted by the Diocese.

Teachers’ Training and Fellowship
Our Sunday School gives continuing education of teachers a priority. We hold at least two Teachers’ Training and Fellowship sessions every year: The purpose of the meeting is three-fold:
1. Promote fellowship among our staff and family members,
2. Sharpen our teaching skills, and
3. Plan the activities for the year

Teachers Training Certificate (TTC) Examination
A refresher course is provided every year for those who appear for the TTC examinations. We have about 20 teachers who have passed TTC examination.

Competitions
Assigned Competitions in Drawing and Essay Writing are conducted every year.

Talent Show
Our parish team presents outstanding performance at the Talent show conducted every year immediately after the Diocesan-level Talent Competition.

Participation in the Parish Level Spiritual Activities
